VBTS Summer Intensive Information and Audition Times

Our intensive full-day summer program is designed to provide serious students ages 8 to 21 with complete summer dance instruction. Classes are held five days a week and include ballet and pointe technique, variations, jazz, modern, character, choreography, Pilates, mime, acting, and seminars in stage make-up, nutrition, and physical therapy. This program provides approximately 180 hours of study with an educated and professional faculty. At the end of the 5-week session, potential new members for the Vermont Ballet Theater and Vermont Youth Ballet will be selected, minimum 4 weeks required.

AUDITIONS ARE SATURDAY, MARCH 15TH, IN ESSEX.

Upon acceptance, a $475.00 non-refundable deposit must accompany the application by April 1st, 2025 for VBTS students and April 15th for video audition candidates. Remaining balance to be paid in 2 additional installments by May 10th and June 10th.

Acceptance:
Dancers will be notified of acceptance by mail or email within 2 weeks of the audition date. If accepted into the program, we will include an application and Summer Intensive Information Letter.

Video Auditions Ages 7 and up

guidelines:
Videos will be accepted until March 24th. Videos must be electronic (e.g., MP4) or DVD format, no longer than 30 minutes in length, and sent in along with the audition form and a dance instructor’s letter of recommendation. Videos should be emailed to info@vbts.org or sent to:

arrange the audition in the following sequence:

  • Full body shot of student facing the camera. State your name, age, and years of study.
  • Barre exercises (short combinations): pliés, tendus, dégagés, rond de jambes, adage, grand battements en croix.
  • Center exercises (short combinations): Pirouettes, Adage, Petite and Grande Allegro
  • Girls on pointe demonstrate Échappés, Relevés on one foot, and Pirouettes.

VBT and VYB company dancers ages 13 and up (OR current VBTS level Ballet VII and up) will be evaluated during your normal classes at VBTS the week of March 17th. Please submit the following Audition Form prior to March 17th.

4 Week August Session. August 4th through August 28th. Registration is required (no fee). 

Dress Code for Ballet Classes: Female ballet attire is leotard, tights, ballet slippers; hair is secured in a bun or French twist. Male ballet attire is tights, ballet slippers and T-Shirt.

Sapphire & Diamond WORKSHOP - SATURDAY SERIES

The Sapphire and Diamond Workshop Series is for current members of Team Sapphire and Team Diamond.  These Saturday classes are designed to offer dancers an opportunity to work with new teachers and choreographers as well as participate in student choreography. At these master classes and rehearsals, the teams will explore new styles and begin to develop their routines for the competition season.

* Two out of the three Saturdays are required for all Sapphire and Diamond members.

Ballet Camp with Sarah Glick in Essex

This camp is designed for the young dancer who wants to expand on his or her ballet training by spending a morning that is "all about dance"! The day will begin with a ballet class; the dancers will receive a journal that they will write in daily and will use this time to reflect on and discuss what they learned in class that morning; they will have a snack break and will make small ballet-themed props; and finally, the dancers will work on choreography for a small in-house performance they will perform for their families on the last day.

Team Ruby & Emerald- Summer Intensive in Essex

The Ruby & Emerald Summer Intensive is a required weeklong camp for current members of Team Ruby and Team Emerald. During the week, students will take daily jazz classes and begin to learn and develop routines for the competition season. This intensive emphasizes clean technique, performance skills, and team building. The Ruby and Emerald camp times overlap so they can dance together. This camp is mandatory for current members of Team Ruby and Team Emerald.

Swan Lake Camp with Maria Mercieca in Shelburne

This camp is perfect for little dancers with big dreams, as we learn about and take on one of the most iconic classical ballets of all time: Swan Lake!  Our day will begin with an age-appropriate ballet class followed by a snack break and dance games in the gazebo and green space. Throughout the week, dancers will also be creating their own costumes pieces, accessories, and set pieces, in preparation for a short-and-sweet in-house performance for families on the last day of camp.

During the week, students will take daily jazz classes and begin to learn and develop routines for the competition season. This intensive emphasizes clean technique, performance skills, and team building. The Pearl and Amethyst camp times overlap so they can dance together. This camp is mandatory for current members of Team Pearl and Team Amethyst.
